The time has come to party like it’s 1989! Our 35-year reunion will be here soon.

Alumnae Weekend is April 19 – 20, 2024 and we want you to come! Maybe you attended Agnes Scott for a short time. Maybe you haven’t kept up with your classmates. Maybe you haven’t attended a reunion before. These are all reasons to join us—it’s a great time to reconnect with your classmates and rediscover our beautiful campus. We want you to come!

Our class party is Saturday the 20th in Allison Adams’ back yard (142 Poplar Circle, Decatur, GA 30030—walking distance from campus). Tacos are on the menu (vegetarian bean, beef, and chicken) plus two salads, one of which has veggie protein.  The cost is $55.00 per person. Would any of the local Cheshire Cats like to volunteer a dessert?  If so please contact either Alisa or Cindy. 

Beer and wine will be available. To keep the cost low, we’re not offering the Peartini—but if you want to donate the ingredients, let us know and we’ll have the cocktail shakers ready.

It has been suggested that everyone stay in the same hotel so we can visit in the lobby and hallways. Louisa researched the various options where Scott has a block reserved and suggests the Courtyard by Marriott Atlanta Decatur Downtown Emory at 130 Clairemont Avenue. The number is (404) 371-0204. Our Fund Chairs Mandy Roberts Fisher and Ann Broaddus Jackson are working very hard to get us the participation trophy. Give what you can to The Fund for Agnes Scott (formerly the Annual Fund). If you have a little extra, donate to the Marjo Dobbs Arseneau ’89 Memorial Librarianship Award. There is a second trophy we could qualify for if we have the most going into two funds.

We don’t care if you only attended Agnes Scott with us for a short time, haven’t spoken to anyone from our class in YEARS, and have never attended a reunion—we are wondering about you and want to know what’s going on with you! On the other hand, if you wouldn’t miss a reunion, we want to catch up with you too!

The consensus from our class officer meetings is that we would like as many of you as possible to be involved in planning and participating in our upcoming reunion, April 19 – 20, 2024. But, we can’t actually wait for reunion to see you. So, the idea is this. We are having small, virtual get-togethers with the goal of reconnecting, especially with people we haven’t seen or heard from in a while. We’d like a wide range of organizers, and Tina Carr has offered to host the first: a virtual Class of ’89 “Gratitude Gathering,” in the spirit of Thanksgiving, on Tuesday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. ET. She will be sending out an invite, but to make sure you have the details you can email her at mt.carr@comcast.net.

Our super-fun fund chairs—Ann Broaddus Jackson and Mandy Roberts Fisher—are thinking up great challenges and other ways for us to compete for the reunion giving awards. This year they REALLY want us to hit our participation goals; they’ll tell you more about it in their upcoming email. Agnes Scott has changed how they are giving out awards this year—they have separate categories for the Fund for Agnes Scott (fka “the annual fund”) and “special funds” like our Marjo Dobbs Arseneau ’89 Memorial Librarianship Award, for example. We’re starting a list of people who are planning on coming to reunion. Please go to our Facebook pages: either the public “Agnes Scott College class of 1989” or private “Agnes Scott ’89 Class News” (just message Class Secretary Dolly Purvis to join) and comment on a message to let us know you’re thinking about coming. Heidi Staven Carpenter, our Class Treasurer, runs the public one, so share with her if you’d like to post something specific on the public page.
