Class of 2009
The Eclipses

Dearest Eclipses,

Somehow, it’s been fifteen years since we graduated from Agnes Scott. (I know, we can’t believe it, either.) So many of us have had massive life changes since graduation day, whether that’s career changes, moving, or children, and that’s not even mentioning the changes on a global scale. We hope you’re ready to head back to campus this spring for reminiscing and making new memories with your Scottie siblings! Feel free to coordinate your plans in our Facebook group (facebook.com/groups/agnesscott09/).

This Alumnae Weekend, April 19 – 20, 2024, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to come together through parties with old friends, back-to-class sessions with cherished professors, and gatherings with other alums at our beloved alma mater. Fall President’s Letter

Dear Eclipses,

Almost two decades after receiving a big envelope from Agnes Scott, I still have the luggage tag accompanying my acceptance letter. Even now, it still hangs on the door of my childhood bedroom. Although that luggage tag has never traveled, it reminds me of all the places I’ve been in life that Agnes Scott made possible. When I returned to campus with Marie Sturgeon (Rush) and Melinda Scaturro (Haney) for Reunion Bootcamp in August, we learned about the incredible honors and awards won by Agnes Scott over the past five years and the plans for future generations of Scotties. Alums aren’t the only ones to notice how special our community is. Some of the highlights include:

  • #1 Most Innovative liberal arts college in the United States –six years in a row!
  • #2 Social Mobility
  • #3 First-Year Experience
  • #4 Learning Communities
  • For the first time in history, Agnes Scott was awarded a $744,000 grant by NASA to continue their work to increase the number of women in STEM. This award is part of a $5 million strategy to identify and retain women in STEM programs.
  • We continue to be a top contributor of scholars to the Fulbright Program, with three new Fulbright recipients named in 2023

As alums, we play a vital role in ensuring the future of Agnes Scott College. An important and meaningful way we contribute is through donations to The Fund for Agnes Scott. In the weeks and months ahead, you will hear from our Fund Chair, Casey Emerick (McCarthy), and other class officers, discussing our reunion year fundraising goals. We hope to meet and exceed this dollar amount and participation goals this year. Stay tuned for fun fundraising competitions and opportunities!

Another way we maintain our relationship with the College and our classmates is by attending Alumnae Weekend. This April 19-20, 2024, the Class of 2009 is invited to return to our beloved campus for this annual tradition, along with other ’04 and ’09 classes. Registration will begin on February 1, 2024. Official Save the Dates were just mailed. More information, including registration and a schedule of events, will follow.

As we approach our fifteenth reunion, I am eager to hear about the adventures that life has led you on. Where has your luggage tag been, and how did Agnes Scott contribute to your unique path?

Warmly,
Rachel E. Wacks
