A letter from your Class Fund Officers

Dear Classmates,

Our college experiences shaped who we are, and for each of us those experiences were often very different. We had different majors, different social lives, different backgrounds, different strengths, different goals. Some of us got up before dawn to study; others of us worked long into the night. Some of us spent weekends on campus; others were nowhere to be seen. We all had favorite professors, favorite dorms, favorite places to study (or avoid studying!). Yet we can all admit that it was not four years of sunshine and unicorns. Part of our college experience involved anxiety, tension, stress, anger, loneliness, and tears. Yet those low points were as formative as the many high points. We learned intensely in the classroom and just as deeply outside of it.

As if the seventies weren’t a big enough challenge, Agnes Scott challenged us—intellectually, socially, emotionally, ethically, and spiritually. And we rose to that challenge. We may not have risen as a unified and cohesive class, but rise we did. So here is a new challenge for each of us: giving back to the place that gave us the foundation for our futures. If we knew what we could say that would make you click the link below, we would have opened with that. But because we are all different (which we see as a strength of our class!), we will all give for different reasons. Education—especially a liberal arts education—is the key to addressing all the other issues that demand our attention and our money. To encourage all of us to give, we have some exciting news:

An anonymous gift of $35,000 will be unlocked if the Class of 1977 collectively gives or pledges $35,000 by December 31, 2026, effectively doubling every gift.

Since it’s our 50th reunion, why not give or pledge an amount with a 5 and a 0. That being said, ANY amount is welcome.

You can click here to make your gift to The Fund for Agnes Scott today!

Follow our class on Facebook and check our reunion page at alumnaeweekend.agnesscott.org.

Our rallying cry is quite simple: it is our fiftieth reunion; please give!
(and keep in mind the December 31st challenge!)

Letter from Your President

Dear Classmates,

Between 1973 and 1977 we shared time together at Agnes Scott College! To celebrate this incredible milestone, our 50 Year Reunion will be April 16 -18, 2027!

What are some of your memories of Agnes Scott? Walking across the campus on a beautiful day, professors who inspired, challenged and at times frustrated us, shared time with friends who are still dear and precious in our hearts? We shared laughter, tears, highs, and lows. Our bond is the time we spent together at Agnes Scott.

Whether you spent a semester at Agnes Scott or graduated, your reunion committee is striving to create time together that will be fun, meaningful and comfortable. Our committee’s contact information is listed below. Any of us would be thrilled to hear from you with suggestions and ideas to create a wonderful time together.

Some of us are staying at the Hampton Inn close to Agnes Scott. The college has a special rate there and at other area hotels (see the list at https://alumnaeweekend.agnesscott.org/lodging). Whether you live in Atlanta or miles away, come join the fun of staying at the same location.

I am forever thankful to have been part of our class with each of you. A unique, curious, and fun group of women! Our class for me is like a quilt of many textures and fabrics, yet together, a beautiful source of warmth and strength.

So grab your calendar and please write April 16-18, 2027, in big bold letters! More information will follow. Hope to see you in April!

Sincerely and with love,

Cindy Hodges Burns
